The VII Century Villanovan Shield dates back to the Etruscan period between 800-700 BC. The Etruscans originated from Europe and settled in Italy, bringing in techniques of armor production, and the shield was one of many. The shield belongs to a set of full set of armor, including a breastplate and a helmet. The Villanovan shield is an aesthetic monolith, and it is believed to be more of a ceremonial item than a combat item. A heavy-duty handle is provided at the back. The shield replica forms a great wall decor product for luxury homes.

  1. The shield is an incredible work of art— a true museum piece. The depth and skill of the repousse work is astounding: pure perfection. Be advised: the shield is large and heavy. Check your metric conversion table The shield is about one yard in diameter, and as the brass is thin, it is a bit wobbly. Overall, unsuitable for carry or for combat. I purchased it for a rough companion piece to a Naue II sword I have; but it is surely a display piece, and magnificent as it is. When opened, it filled my home with scattered, reflected golden light. It is like a giant mandala: a meditation object, and now the very center of my home and room. I hung it on the wall at the foot of my bed so it will be the last thing, and the first thing, I see every night and day. It really is that beautiful.
