Phyrigian Style Greek Helmet is also known as the Thracian helmet. The historical artifact of the helmet was found in a European region called Thrace, in ancient Greece. The shape of the helmet bowl looks like the Phyrygian helmet from Phyrygia, Anatolia. Therefore, it is also related to the Phyrigian type helmets. This helmet is believed to have been used in the late VI century BC. The shape of this helmet is like a shepherd’s cap. Some also argue that its shape has a palmette design with its top as a bird’s neck. The helmet also has side tubes to hold feathers and other decorative features. -

The Pilos Helmet for Reenactment is a simple helmet and one of the most commonly used helmets in ancient Greece. The helmet was inspired by the felt/wool cap, also known as the Pileus. The embossed groove above the rim of the helmet is an inspiration from the drawstring of the pileus cap. The original finding of the helmet was in bronze metal. The simple construction of the helmet made it easily accessible and cheap, compared to the other types of helmets. The helmet was particularly famous among the foot soldiers of Greek armies. The historians think that the helmet was not safe for battle as it did not provide any protection to the face. -

The hoplite shields protected the torso but exposed the legs; therefore, a protective layer was important. The plain anatomical greaves are designed to follow the natural contours of human legs. The VI Century Illyrian Helmet is a simple and impressive piece of hoplite reenactment gear. Originally constructed in the Greek workshops, but was later used across the Mediterranean. The helmet artefact was found in the Adriatic region and therefore, it was named after Illyria. The construction of the helmet has fixed and rigid cheek guards and a projected neck protector. The central ridges are hand-embossed to fit a crest (if needed). Some historians and scholars also claim that this design is an inspiration from Sarajevo’s style of helmets. -

The VI century Greek greaves have a special design using embossed ridges that form spirals on either side of the legs. Another interesting feature of the greaves is the embossed star shape on the knee profile. The knee profile is slightly embossed to give room to the patella. The embossed grooves give more strength to the overall construct of these greaves. The internal layer of padding provides optimum comfort. The Greaves are parts of the armor that protect the shin bone, also known as the Tibia. -
