The Balkan Ridged Helmet is a close match to other ridged helmets from the Balkan region. It has articulated cheek guards with a double-embossed rim band. Such helmets are believed to have been used during the III and IV centuries AD. It is an infantry helmet with a simple and robust design. The cheek guards are hammered outward to provide protection as well as optimum ventilation to the user. The nasal guard of the helmet, in comparison to the other Serbian finds, is shorter and sleek. Rings are provided on the inside of the cheek guards for leather thongs. -

The original finds of the helmet show the possible use of a silver bowl gilded in gold. The bulbous rivets were made of silver and helped attach both layers of metal. -

A single belt-to-buckle attachment as a chin strap was given to the helmet to keep it firm on the head of the cavalrymen.

The original helmet was found in excavations in Drusenheim, near Haguenau in Alsace. Scholars believe that the original helmet was worn by a soldier belonging to the 4th Legion of Macedonia. The original helmet was found in brass but there are variations of the same helmet in bronze as well. This type of helmet was used by the Roman army and therefore was constructed in large numbers. The modern-day replicas of this helmet are mainly found in steel and brass.

$140.00The Coolus Mannheim helmet was a cavalry helmet during the Roman era. The original artifact of the Coolus helmet was found in the river Marne of Coolus and this is from where it got its name. It is also known as the Coolus Mannheim (Type A) by Schaff. The helmet is shaped like a hat with slight neck protection. The rim of the helmet is folded on the inside to prevent any roughness. Jarak helmet | Berkasovo Type Roman Helmet
$350.00The Jarak helmet belongs to the family of Berkasovo-type helmets due to its similarities in the overall construction details and the decorations. As per relevant scholarly references, the helmet was found in a clay pot. A farmer found the clay pot while plowing his lands in the province of Srem, Serbia. The helmet was later purchased by the Vojvodjanski Museum, Novi sad, Serbia. The Jarak helmet is believed to have been used during the 4th century AD by one of the officers of the Licinius Army. The actual ownership of the helmet is uncertain as the place of excavation was a hotbed of conflicts in history. It is categorized as a Roman helmet due to its similarities to the Berkosovo-type helmets. The original find of the helmet has silver rivets and traces of silver gilding on the helmet bowl. Interestingly, there are no traces of any precious stones attached to the helmet.

Weisenau Mainz helmet is a Roman army Imperial helmet. The original artifact of the helmet is showcased in the Schaffhausen Museum, Switzerland. A copy of the same helmet is also showcased in the Romano-Germanic Central Museum (RGZM), Mainz. The helmet is similar to other Imperial and Gallic helmet as mentioned in the Axel Guttman collection. The original helmet is believed to be constructed of bronze metal with a tinned finish. The embossed lines at the back of the helmet and the top of the bowl are a feature on nearly all the imperial helmets. The neck guard of this particular helmet is smaller and more decorated as compared to the others. The cheek guards are also similar; the only difference is the use of brass sockets for enamel decoration. -
