Hodhill Sword | Roman reenactment sword

Rated 4.00 out of 5 based on 1 customer rating

$160.00

The Hodhill Sword is an intricate weapon from the Roman era. It was mainly used by the auxiliaries for cutting and not for slashing.
The sword is believed to be used by high-ranking Roman army officers. The original artifact of this sword was found in Hodhill, Dorset, England during the first century AD. Although the sword is believed to be used in the Roman period it also has elements from the Celtic period as well, especially the hilt. The hilt of the sword is made with several small parts joined together to attain the final shape. The brass decorations make this sword an artistic weapon.

Fantastic sword for this price range. Delivery was really good, and fast. The sword is a great example of this period. Yes its blade heavy, but that is accurate and tells you how the sword wants to be used. It’s got a reenactment edge. The grip is surprisingly comfortable in the hand. The fit and finish where the blade and gard meet is very well done, and better than in some other more expensive swords. The details on the metal work are almost polished off on pieces, but again this may be more historical, as many finds show fit and finish wasn’t all ways perfect. For this price range this is an excellent sword. The fit into the scabbard isn’t what I’d hoped, where the scabbard mouth and gaurd meet there’s not a perfect fit at the sides. I intend to get my engraving tool and just touch up the etchings on the metal work. Great blade, really nice comfortable grip, beautiful scabbard, fantastic for this price range.
